In May 2025, Grindrod, representing the Grindrod Eyamakhosi partnership, signed a concession agreement with Transnet Ports Authority to build and operate the container terminal in Richards Bay, with planned entry into container handling at Richards Bay in 2028. In May 2025, the Matola terminal achieved record monthly throughput of over 1,075,638 tonnes. In the first half of 2025, Grindrod concluded the R1.4 billion acquisition of the remaining 35% interest in the Matola terminal.
